As regular readers of the site will have already seen, Super Mario 3D All-Stars got off to a cracking start in the UK, jumping straight in at number one in its debut week. As it turns out, the game’s early success was even bigger than we first thought.

As reported by ReedPop’s Christopher Dring, who has been sharing GfK chart data on social media, 3D All-Stars has actually just enjoyed the third-biggest launch of any game in the UK this year. Only The Last of Us Part II and Animal Crossing: New Horizons enjoyed bigger launches – two of the most hotly anticipated titles of the year.

It gets better still, though, as Dring also reveals that Super Mario 3D All-Stars was Nintendo’s 15th biggest game launch of all time in the UK, being the second biggest Mario platformer. The biggest launch for any Mario platformer was Super Mario Odyssey in 2017, which currently stands as Nintendo’s 14th biggest launch in the country.

Its impressive debut also means that 3D All-Stars has had the fifth most successful launch of any Switch game in the region, only sitting behind the aforementioned Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario Odyssey, as well as Pokémon Sword and Shield and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
