Yes, you can find Memorial Day sales on more than just grills and lawnmowers. Along with those summer staples, Amazon and Best Buy are also deeply cutting prices on a host of other gadgets, including great deals on both the Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL unlocked smartphones, saving you at least 30%.

Normally $399, the Pixel 3a (64GB) is just $279. The deal on the Pixel 3a XL (64GB) is even better: it’s now $319 or $160 off its normal price. Those are some of the best prices we’ve seen on either model and both ship free — and are in stock right now in limited supply.

So why should you give the Google Pixel line of smartphones a shot? If you’re an Android purist, it is one of the only smartphones on the market that give you the full unadulterated and bloatware-free version of the software. Most manufacturers either add additional functionality or tweak Android’s core software to make it their own.

That’s not the case with the Pixel series phones. The lack of bloatware means the phone runs much better, and Google has packed in the features to compete with just about any other smartphone on the market right now.

What sets this particular smartphone apart is its camera. While the phone is the more “budget-conscious” version of the Pixel 3 using less expensive materials to build, you still get the same great 12.2-megapixel camera system that made the Pixel 3 so great.

With great features like optical and electronic stabilization and fused video stabilization for smooth photos and video, and other innovative camera features include the Night Sight, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, which retains solid photo quality even when zooming in, the pictures you’ll get out of this thing will be simply stunning.

It’s all powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670. While it’s a lower-end processor, and we’ve seen 600 series processors struggle to keep up in processor-intensive applications like gaming, that’s not the case here. We’ll mark it down to the lack of bloatware here, but we had much fewer problems with those types of applications on both of these devices.

Add in a screen that, while not as good as the Pixel 3 or 4, is still surprisingly vibrant for a “budget” smartphone, and we think that Google has a winner here.

Which size should you choose? That’s up to you. If you’re watching videos and like to play games, we’d opt for the larger 6.0-inch-screened 3a XL. The smaller 5.5-inch screen of the 3a might be better for more casual users, but it by no means is small-screened either.

Again, we’d act quickly at this price. Stock is limited, and the price is lower than we’ve seen at most retailers. There’s a good chance the price will go up after Memorial Day, too: Both Amazon and Best Buy had been selling both models for as much as $50 more in the past few weeks.
