Ring Fit Adventure Has Now Outsold Zelda: Breath Of The Wild’s Physical Sales In Japan

Ring Fit Adventure is proving to be so popular in Nintendo’s home country of Japan that it has now sold more physical copies than one of Switch’s biggest releases, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

If you keep up to date with our regular Japanese chart updates, you’ll have seen that Ring Fit Adventure landed in third place last week, reaching an estimated lifetime total of 1,668,843 physical sales in the region. Famitsu has since updated its chart data to show updated game sales for titles that didn’t reach the top ten, revealing that Breath of the Wild now has a lifetime total of 1,662,966 (thanks, VG247).

Of course, there are various factors in play here. One thing to keep in mind is that Ring Fit Adventure can only be purchased physically thanks to the included Ring-Con and Joy-Con Strap, meaning that all sales of the game will be included in this data. Breath of the Wild will have sold plenty of digital copies, too – not included in those figures – meaning that its grand total will still be significantly higher.

However, it’s also worth pointing out that Ring Fit Adventure has regularly faced stock shortages around the globe, partly thanks to its immense popularity and also because of issues brought about by the pandemic. It’s easy to imagine Ring Fit’s sales total being much higher if more stock had been available throughout the year.

You can't download one of those from the eShop...

Either way, it’s interesting to see that Nintendo’s latest take on the fitness gaming genre has been such a success. We’re sure those sales won’t be slowing down any time soon.
