Something of a surprise addition to Google’s Pixel stable, the Pixel 3a XL is a powerful midrange phone with a lot to love about it. Despite a sub-$500 price point, the 3a XL packs in a good midrange processor and a camera that blows away anything else in its price bracket. A lightweight build helps to keep costs down, but it does mean the phone can become susceptible to scratches and other such damage. To stop that from happening, fit it out with a protective case.
To make the most of your Pixel 3a XL, we suggest outfitting it with one of our favorite ultra-durable cases. But, be warned, Pixel 3 XL cases won’t fit on the updated Pixel 3a XL frame.
UAG Scout Series Case
A tough but light case, the UAG Scout series is suited for anyone who intends to take their phone out into their active lifestyle. Its lightweight construction uses a system of honeycomb structures to provide strength while also keeping weight down, and it works extremely well. It exceeds military standard 810G 516.6 for drops, which means it was capable of withstanding 26 drops from more than 4 feet high, with zero damage. Despite that protection, it’s slim, and it’s also a fairly low price for UAG, making this one of the best ways to get great protection on a light budget.
Totallee Thin Case
This super svelte case is as slim as they come, completely transparent, and free of logos or branding. It’s soft to the touch, and it sports precise openings for the fingerprint sensor, camera, buttons, and ports. It adds a hint of grip and will provide basic protection from minor bumps, and there’s a raised lip to safeguard the camera lens. The buttons are a little harder to press when your Pixel 3a XL is wearing this case, but it’s otherwise as sleek and invisible as they come.
Case-Mate Twinkle Case
If you like to show off some sparkle with your phone case, then Case-Mate has a design for you. Packed with reflective iridescent glitter foil, this clear case is sure to turn heads. It isn’t just a pretty face though, because it can withstand drops from up to 10 feet. The flexible frame adds grip and features metallic button covers, and there’s an anti-scratch finish on the hard back. Case-Mate also offers a lifetime warranty with this case.
Otterbox Symmetry Series Case
You may find the Defender Series case is a bit bulky for your tastes, in which case the slim, one-piece Symmetry case could be ideal for you. It still offers solid drop protection with a beveled edge to safeguard that screen. It’s a mixture of malleable rubber and tough polycarbonate and you’ll find a couple of interesting two-tone finishes, or you can opt for classic black. The chunky button covers are easy to find and press without looking and there’s a light texture that enhances grip.
Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro Case
Anyone seeking decent protection without spending too much might be tempted by the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro. It’s an angular mix of TPU and polycarbonate that enhances grip and offers drop protection from falls of up to 20 feet. This case has a built-in screen protector, as well as port and button covers for complete 360-degree protection. You also get a detachable rotating holster. It comes in black, white or two-tone gray with blue or pink.
Tech21 Studio Design Case
This case from Tech21 has an eye-catching geometric design printed on the back with glossy grooves that catch the light. It’s rounded for comfort and enhances grip, but it also offers solid drop protection, with Tech21 claiming it can resist damage from falls up to 8 feet. It doesn’t just protect against physical hazards though — you’ll get resistance against microbes as well, thanks to an antimicrobial coating. It looks great in plum, it’s thin, and it’s not badly priced, making this a great case to make a statement.
Speck Presidio Grip Case
The Presidio Grip is one of our favorite case lines. First and foremost, it’s very protective, capable of withstanding drops of up to 10 feet. The diagonal ridges and interior are made from a flexible material that enhances grip, while the main shell is smooth and incredibly tough. Every element, from the beveled openings for the camera and fingerprint sensor to the pronounced button covers, is beautifully designed and highly functional. It does add a little bulk, but that secures you some of the best drop protection around. It comes in black, blue and black, or the two-tone gray pictured.
Incipio DualPro Case
How about a dual-layer case to match the two-tone design ethos of the Pixel 3a XL? This tough case from Incipio sports two layers of protection and uses an inner core of TPU along with a hard outer shell of polycarbonate to keep your phone safe. This translates to some serious protection, with drop resistance up to an impressive 10 feet. Despite that, it’s still rather slim, with a raised bezel to safeguard the screen from damage if your Pixel 3a XL should land face down. You’ll also find well-defined button covers and accurate openings for all ports and features.
Google Fabric Case
Designed by Google, the Fabric case is a really nice option for your Pixel 3a XL. It’s a slim, light case that will offer basic protection from bumps and falls, but it’s also extremely comfortable in your hand and it really enhances the grip. The power button cover matches the original color, while the volume rocker is covered in fabric. The cutouts are very generous, so there’s no issue plugging in or using the camera or fingerprint sensor. It comes in three colors a dark carbon color, or lighter shades of gray called fog and seascape. You also get the official G logo on the back.
Case-Mate Tough Clear Case
If you like to go for clear cases so you can see the design of your phone inside, but you don’t want to scrimp on the protection level, then Case-Mate has you covered. The Tough Clear case offers drop protection from falls of up to 10 feet. The flexible sides enhance grip and absorb shock, while the transparent back is scratch-resistant. There are also cushioned corners and a slight lip that extends around the screen. You’ll also find large cutouts for easy access to ports and the fingerprint sensor.
Spigen Tough Armor Case
One of the main attractions of the Pixel 3a XL is the low price, which makes it one of the best affordable phones around, so maybe you don’t want to spend too much on a case. If that’s true, then you might consider the Spigen Tough Armor case. It’s pretty cheap, but it still offers solid drop protection thanks to a tried and tested combination of polycarbonate and TPU. It’s a little chunky and angular, but it will guard your phone against drop damage, it has a lip around the screen, and there’s even a pop-out kickstand on the back. The openings are accurate, and we like the textured power button cover.
